The middle of the week will be relatively quiet for the UK corporate diary ahead of Thursday’s heavier agenda, although investors will likely be keeping an eye on final results from Smurfit Kappa as well as interim results from homeware retailer Dunelm and housebuilder Redrow.
Meanwhile, investors will also be eyeing earnings data from the other side of the Atlantic, with results expected from soft drinks giant Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO, ride hailing app Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER) and vehicle manufacturer General Motors Co (NYSE:GM).
There may also be interest in the macro diary with US inflation data due for the month of January.
A package for Smurfit
Smurfit Kappa Group plc (LON:SKG) is dropping its finals mid-week with the market eager to quantify the benefits of the shift to online shopping during the crisis on the FTSE 100 packaging firm.
Investors will also look for guidance for the new year and dividend updates.
The packaging specialist said in November it would pay a second interim dividend, a year-end bonus to staff and repay any government coronavirus support after achieving a stronger than expected third quarter.
The Irish group expects to deliver underlying earnings (EBITDA) of €1.46-1.48bn for the full year and recently set out to achieve at least net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
As part of plans to bolster its ESG credentials, it also aims for 30% female representation across its business, with at least 25% holding management positions by 2024, while an investment of €24mln will be made by 2025 to support community, environmental and social initiatives.
